DentalGoodNews|In April 2026, the latest report "Q1 2026 Economic Outlook Report" released by the American Dental Association (ADA) Health Policy Institute (HPI) shows that in the 12 months ending February 2026, the cost of Dental Equipment and supplies increased by 6%. Meanwhile, the hourly wages of dental practitioners grew by only 2%, aligning with the overall inflation rate of 2% during the same period. The report points out that as cost growth far outpaces revenue increases and salary adjustments, dental practices in the United States are facing a sustained "fiscal squeeze."

According to the report, despite increasing cost pressures, U.S. dentists' economic confidence remained stable in the first quarter of 2026. Approximately 44.4% of dentists expressed confidence in the dental industry, slightly higher than the 41.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025. The main factors supporting confidence include the inelastic demand for dental care (33.3%) and the busyness of practice operations (31.6%). In contrast, skeptical dentists (29.1%) primarily worry about low insurance reimbursement rates, rising operational costs due to inflation, and the overall economic downturn.

According to previous reports by DGN, U.S. dentists' confidence hit a historical low in the first half of 2025, with only about 30% of doctors confident in the overall economy. The latest Q1 data shows a recovery and stabilization in confidence, but operational pressures remain severe. The report indicates that currently, about one-third of dentists report being "not busy enough" and could accommodate more patients. Furthermore, the average wait time for new patient appointments has decreased to 12.4 days, approximately two days shorter than at the beginning of 2024.

Challenges in talent recruitment remain severe. The report shows that nearly 40% of practices attempted to hire dental hygienists in the past three months, with over 90% of doctors describing the recruitment process as "very difficult" or "extremely challenging." The main reasons include an insufficient number of applicants, excessively high salary and benefit demands, and dissatisfaction with candidate qualifications. To alleviate staffing shortages, at least 80% of practices have begun offering employee benefits such as paid time off, holiday benefits, and dental insurance.
