DentalGoodNews|Recently, U.S. precision prosthetics manufacturer Spectrum Killian, National Dentex Labs (NDX), one of North America's largest dental laboratory networks, and U.S. dental implant component manufacturer Open Implants announced their merger into a parent company integrating the three businesses, named SPEKTRA.
This integration brings Spectrum Killian's process-engineered manufacturing, NDX's international dental laboratory network, and Open Implants' implant component manufacturing business into a single system, with plans to build an oral health ecosystem connecting technology, manufacturing, and clinical support.
Although clinics are gradually adopting intraoral scanning and chairside workflows, the manufacturing and support processes behind them remain fragmented across different suppliers and platforms. SPEKTRA states it is committed to driving dental prosthetics from a traditional model reliant on case-by-case experience toward a more precise, repeatable, and engineered process deliverable through scalable digital workflows.
Among the three merged entities, Spectrum Killian is known for its "process-engineered manufacturing" model. Through its Centers of Excellence established in California, the company breaks down prosthetic work into recordable, repeatable steps, enabling large-scale, high-consistency precision prosthetic production.
National Dentex Labs (NDX) is one of North America's largest dental laboratory networks, with more than 30 localized and specialized laboratories across the United States. This integration brings its laboratory network, professional capabilities, and long-accumulated clinical partnerships into the SPEKTRA system.
Open Implants fills in the critical link of implant component manufacturing: it is an FDA-registered implant component manufacturer whose patented products have cleared 510(k) review.
SPEKTRA Chief Executive Officer Charbel Louis Karam stated that for a long time, clinical tools, materials, and manufacturing processes in the dental industry have never truly worked in coordination, resulting in slow adoption of digital technologies. SPEKTRA is attempting to build an integrated ecosystem where doctors and all prosthetic processes behind them operate in coordination, thereby better serving patients and clinicians.
