DentalGoodNews|In June 2026, Health Canada stated that due to actual demand exceeding original projections, the benefit funding allocation for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for the 2026-27 fiscal year has reached CAD 3.4 billion (approximately RMB 18 billion). Ryan Higgs, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer of Health Canada, noted that the originally planned benefit funding for the 2025-26 fiscal year was CAD 2.9 billion, but subsequent demand exceeded expectations, leading to increased funding arrangements.
According to Ryan Higgs' statement at the Senate National Finance Committee meeting, the funding scale for the CDCP benefit portion is expected to remain between CAD 3.4 billion and CAD 3.9 billion annually over the next five fiscal years. Related expenditures are not separately listed in the Main Estimates but are included in Health Canada's overall operating expenses. Currently, the department's annual Main Estimates have increased from CAD 4.26 billion in the previous year to CAD 4.47 billion.

As of May 31, 2026, approximately 6.58 million Canadians have been approved to participate in the CDCP, with 4.47 million having actually received dental care services. On the supply side, the number of oral health service providers registered with the plan continues to grow, currently reaching 28,929, an increase of 595 from the end of April. Additionally, over 3.4 million beneficiaries have completed their renewal for the 2026-27 fiscal year, but the approval rate for services requiring pre-authorization remains below 50%.
In terms of administrative costs, approximately CAD 149 million in program delivery and management fees have been included in the Supplementary Estimates (A). These funds are primarily used for application verification and eligibility determination services undertaken by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). According to previous reports by DENTALGOODNEWS (Leading Dental Industry Media, DGN), the CDCP experienced income calculation errors in its early operations that affected the eligibility assessment of approximately 70,000 members. This issue has since been resolved through system fixes.
