On March 3, 2026, during the 31st South China International Stomatological Exhibition, the "FOR Academic Navigation Forum – Clinical Decision-Making and Experience in Complex Implant Rehabilitation" academic event, jointly created by Nobel Biocare and the Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation (FOR), was successfully held at the Canton Fair Complex. The forum brought together top domestic experts in the field of dental implantology, focusing on cutting-edge concepts and clinical practices in complex implant rehabilitation. It provided attending doctors with a professional feast of both academic depth and practical value, aiding in the enhancement of clinical diagnosis and treatment capabilities. The forum was chaired by Professor Rong Mingdeng from the Hospital of Stomatology, Southern Medical University.

Professor Chen Zhuofan from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University delivered the opening speech for the forum. Professor Chen pointed out that complex implant rehabilitation is a key and challenging area in clinical dentistry. This forum, through multi-dimensional academic exchange, provides clinicians with actionable decision-making frameworks and practical experience, contributing to the high-quality development of the field of implant rehabilitation in South China and across the nation.

Stefan Nilsson, Global President of Nobel Biocare, shared the brand's development journey and technological achievements. Nobel Biocare has been deeply involved in the dental implant field for over 60 years. From the discovery of osseointegration in 1952 that opened the field of dental implants, to introducing CAD/CAM technology into implant rehabilitation, from the patented All-on-4® treatment concept for edentulous patients, to the widespread application of creos™ Regenerative Materials, the company has consistently led industry development through innovation. In 2026, Nobel Biocare officially incorporated Versah into its brand portfolio and significantly released the publication 60 Years of Clinical Experience with Osseointegrated Implants, continuously empowering clinical dental diagnosis and treatment with innovative products and cutting-edge achievements.

In the core session of the forum, six top industry experts delivered in-depth presentations on six key topics related to complex implant rehabilitation. From evidence-based medicine to technological innovation, and from clinical strategies to product application, they comprehensively unlocked the critical points of complex implant rehabilitation.

Professor Lai Hongchang from the Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, provided an in-depth analysis of the selection of indications, key operational points, and risk prevention and control for immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone, combining the latest evidence-based medical evidence with clinical cases. He emphasized that immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone requires strict adherence to evidence-based principles combined with innovative means such as digital technology to achieve dual optimization of function and aesthetics.

Professor Deng Feilong from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University focused on "The Innovative Path of Edentulous Implant Rehabilitation." He systematically elaborated on innovative concepts for edentulous implant rehabilitation from the dimensions of implant design, prosthetic solutions, to postoperative maintenance. Furthermore, he provided a deep review of the evolutionary history of Nobel Biocare implants from Branemark to Speedy and then to PCC, clearly demonstrating the iterative upgrades of dental implants in adapting to clinical needs, enhancing restorative outcomes, and simplifying operational procedures. This provided clinicians with new ideas and technical references for managing complex edentulous cases.

Professor Wang Jingming from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University focused on "Treatment Strategies and Key Techniques for SST in Anterior Implant Contour Aesthetics." He detailed the technical principles and selection of indications for SST technology. Combining rich clinical cases, he emphasized the clinical operational details and precautions of SST technology in anterior implant placement, providing practical and feasible technical references for improving the aesthetic outcomes of anterior implants.

Professor Li Shaobing from the Hospital of Stomatology, Southern Medical University addressed "The Design and Management of Jumping Gaps in Immediate Implant Placement in the Aesthetic Zone." He emphasized that the size of the jumping gap should be controlled between 2–3 mm and filled with low-substitution-rate bone grafting materials. For implant selection in jumping gaps, implants with platform switching, a tapered connection design, and good primary stability are preferred. He also shared that the TiUnite surface treatment is more conducive to the attachment and proliferation of osteoblasts.

Dr. Liu Chenhan from Kiang Wu Hospital, Macau, introduced the technical advantages and clinical application value of the Nobel Biocare TiUltra Implant and Xeal abutment systems. He pointed out that for severe horizontal bone defects in the aesthetic zone, bone augmentation is not the only or mandatory solution. The flexible neck design of the TiUltra Implant, combined with precise placement using X-Guide dynamic navigation, can achieve less trauma and more stable prognosis. Simultaneously, using the modified Xeal abutment makes it easier to obtain stable aesthetic results.

During this forum, the Nobel PCC implant, as a universal and versatile implant solution, was highly favored and recommended by experts. The Nobel PCC implant demonstrates adaptation advantages across all clinical scenarios, including the anterior region, posterior region, and edentulous cases, providing efficient solutions for complex implant rehabilitation.

  • Anterior Region: The Nobel PCC implant has excellent self-tapping properties, allowing for easy achievement of ideal primary stability in immediate anterior implant placement. When paired with the ASC abutment for restoration, it enables screw-retained prosthetics while precisely shaping a natural emergence profile, achieving excellent aesthetic restorative outcomes.
  • Posterior Region: The large-diameter Nobel PCC implant can withstand high occlusal forces in the molar region and can create a high-quality emergence profile even when restorative space is limited. Its fully double-lead thread design allows for maximum utilization of residual alveolar bone in internal/external sinus floor elevation procedures, securing high primary stability. Short implants can avoid complex vertical bone augmentation procedures, and their self-tapping characteristics are also suitable for immediate posterior implant placement, easily achieving primary stability.
  • Edentulous Cases: As Nobel Biocare's first internal connection implant specifically designed for immediate loading in edentulous cases, the Nobel PCC implant can achieve high primary stability in both the maxilla and mandible, facilitating immediate loading for edentulous patients. Paired with Nobel Biocare's reinforced composite abutments, it can simplify chairside procedures, easily completing one-stage fixed restorations. Short implants are suitable for the All-on-4® Plus concept, effectively avoiding distal cantilevers. Long implants can handle various bone quality conditions; in the maxilla, they can be tilted to fully utilize the high-quality bone in the anterior region, or pterygoid implants can be used to further enhance retention stability.

At the conclusion of the forum, Professor Rong Mingdeng delivered the closing remarks. He stated that this forum has established an efficient academic exchange platform for dental implant practitioners. The sharing by top experts not only conveyed cutting-edge concepts and core technologies for complex implant rehabilitation but also fostered consensus on industry development. In the future, Nobel Biocare will continue to collaborate with FOR to persistently promote academic research and technological innovation in the field of dental implantology, injecting more professional strength into improving the level of dental medical services in China.
