DentalGoodNews |Recently, Professor Sun Yuchun's team at Peking University Hospital of Stomatology has made significant progress in the field of digital and precision oral restoration: The project "Intelligent System Innovation and Translational Application of Precision Biomimetic Oral Restoration Technology" led by the team won the Second Prize (First Prize in preliminary evaluation) of the 2025 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award for Medical Science and Technology; As a core participant, the project "Independent Innovation and Demonstration Application of Key Technologies for Digital Precision Oral Restoration" simultaneously won the First Prize of the 2025 Ministry of Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Engineering Technology).
According to reports, Professor Sun Yuchun's team, together with Associate Professor Chen Hu, Associate Researcher Tian Sukun, Associate Researcher Wang Xiang, Associate Researcher Zhang Xu and other young backbones, has achieved three core technological breakthroughs in the field of digital oral restoration after more than ten years of dedicated research: an original intelligent design paradigm that doubles the efficiency of complex denture design; breakthrough high-precision measurement and manufacturing technology with large-span implant scanning accuracy reaching 6.6-25μm, achieving world-class standards; development of gradient biomimetic zirconia materials, enabling restorations that are "indistinguishable from natural teeth".
In terms of achievement transformation, the related technologies have obtained 68 multi-national patent authorizations, achieved 55 transformations, formed multiple core products and clinical solutions, covered more than 100 countries worldwide, and cumulatively produced over 200 million dentures. In the past three years, direct economic benefits have exceeded 2.5 billion yuan, while promoting an overall reduction in diagnosis and treatment costs of approximately 50%. Relying on a complete full-process digital restoration technology system, the related core technologies have achieved a transformation from "import dependence" to "independent control", and have reached international advanced levels in clinical efficiency, restoration accuracy and stability.
Peking University Hospital of Stomatology stated that the landing of these "dual awards" marks China's leap from "following" to "leading" in precision oral restoration technology, and also provides a technological foundation for the implementation of the "Healthy China" strategy.
